PRODUCT INFORMATION

The ICON 56516 is a vehicle-specific rear shock absorber engineered for the 2022-2025 Toyota Tundra and 2023-2025 Toyota Sequoia platform, designed for applications with up to approximately 0-1.5″ of rear lift (for non-TRD Tundra) or up to 0-3″/4″ lift depending on air-suspension or Sequoia model variant.

This unit belongs to ICON’s Vehicle Specific (V.S.) 2.0 Aluminum Series and incorporates an internal-reservoir monotube design, advanced valving tuned for the specific vehicle chassis, and durable materials optimized for both street driving and moderate off-road use.

Key Technical Features:

  • Nitrogen-charged monotube architecture with internal reservoir, enhancing fluid capacity and thermal management.

  • One-piece linear/digressive piston design with vehicle‐specific valving, calibrated for the rear suspension dynamics of the Tundra/Sequoia platform.

  • 5/8″ chrome plated hardened steel shaft to resist corrosion and pitting under heavy use.

  • 6063 anodized aluminum body and reservoir tubing (in some descriptions 6061 rod end/internal components) providing high heat dissipation and corrosion resistance. Icon Vehicle Dynamics

  • Polyurethane bushings and zinc-plated sleeves, forged steel mounting stems, for OE factory-type fitment and durability.

  • Fully rebuildable and re-valveable, allowing long-term serviceability and tuning flexibility.

Fitment & Application Notes:

  • Rear shock only; sold individually (a quantity of 2 required per vehicle rear axle).

  • Compatible with OEM coil-spring rear suspension (non-TRD Tundra) with 0-1.5″ lift; for air-suspension variants compatible with up to 3″ lift in Tundra or up to 4″ in Sequoia depending on configuration.

  • Not compatible with TRD Pro spec Tundras when specified by tech notes.

  • Q: What lift range is supported by the ICON 56516 shock?
A: The shock is designed to support up to approximately 0-1.5″ of rear lift on non-TRD Tundra coil-spring vehicles. On Tundras with OEM load-leveling air suspension the compatible lift extends to around 0-3″, and on 2023/24 Sequoias up to 0-4″ is noted in the manufacturer’s tech bulletins. Icon Vehicle Dynamics

  • Q: Can this shock be tuned or serviced in future?
A: Yes. The 56516 shock from ICON is fully rebuildable and re-valveable. This allows recalibration for changed vehicle loads, accessory weight, or terrain demands over time.

  • Q: Does installation require any specific modifications to the vehicle?
A: No major structural modifications are required. The shock uses OE-type mounting stems and fitment hardware. However, as with any upgraded suspension component, a post-installation alignment is strongly recommended. The tech notes highlight that this shock is incompatible with the TRD Pro variant and adaptive variable suspension (AVS) vehicles in certain configurations.

  • Q: How does the internal reservoir design benefit performance?
A: The internal reservoir increases fluid capacity, separates nitrogen from oil effectively, and supports better thermal control during repeated compression/rebound cycles. This helps maintain consistent damping characteristics under both street and moderate off-road use.

  • Q: What should I verify post-installation?
A: After installation you should verify correct ride height (within the intended lift range), inspect fastener torque on mounting stems, check bushing condition and clearance through full suspension travel, and perform a full alignment to factory or upgraded spec. Also ensure that the shock’s service interval and rebuild capability are noted in case of heavy-use or off-road applications.
