2027 Ram TRX Gets 75 More HP and Barely Pulls Ahead of the Old One

2027 Ram TRX Gets 75 More HP and Barely Pulls Ahead of the Old One

Source: Autoblog, August 10, 2026

The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX makes 777 horsepower. The outgoing 2021-2024 TRX makes 702. Seventy-five extra ponies should translate to a meaningful gap in a standing quarter-mile. It doesn't. A drag-race video from The Fast Lane Truck showed the new truck edging past the old one by the slimmest of margins — and in a rolling race, the older, lighter truck actually pulled ahead.

The culprit is curb weight. The 2027 TRX is heavier than its predecessor, and that extra mass chips away at the power-to-weight advantage those additional horsepower should have delivered. The result is a truck that feels quick but can't fully exploit its own engine.

There's another side to that weight story that the drag strip doesn't capture: stopping distance. More mass moving at the same speed means more kinetic energy the brake system has to absorb on every single stop. Whether you're hauling heavy cargo, towing, running desert trails, or just living with this truck as a daily, the stock brakes on both TRX generations are calibrated around the factory weight budget — not around what happens when you push them harder or load them up.

The Alcon Big Kit for Dodge Ram TRX

The Alcon Big Kit for Dodge Ram TRX (2021+) fits both the original TRX and the new 2027 model. It's built around Alcon's motorsport-derived monobloc calipers and larger-diameter rotors — hardware that handles heat fade and repeated hard stops the way factory brakes simply aren't engineered to. The rotors are cross-drilled and slotted, the calipers are stiff, and the whole kit is engineered to a standard that's closer to off-road race prep than an OEM upgrade.

The visual upgrade is real too. Alcon's red calipers sitting behind the TRX's wheels make a statement that matches the truck's personality — this isn't a trailer-queen build, and the brakes shouldn't look like one either.

At $3,750, the kit is a serious investment. It's also the right answer if you bought a TRX because you intend to use it — and now you're looking at a 777-hp truck that weighs even more than before.
