Rocketeer's 304 HP V6 MX-5 NC Hits Goodwood Revival — and Rewrites the Brake Brief

Story source: Motor1 — Rocketeer Cars debuts its Jaguar V6-swapped MX-5 NC at the Goodwood Revival, September 20–22, 2026.

The Mazda MX-5 NC has always punched above its weight as a driver's car. A taut chassis, near-perfect 50/50 balance, and a weight figure that makes most modern sports cars look embarrassed. What it never had was serious power — until Rocketeer Cars showed up at Goodwood Revival 2026 with a very different answer.

Rocketeer's turnkey conversion pulls the NC's stock 2.0-liter four and replaces it with a Jaguar AJ30 3.0-liter V6 making 304 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. That's roughly double what the standard car produces. The swap is engineered as a complete kit, meaning buyers get a finished, driveable conversion rather than a parts pile and a prayer. The car made its public debut on the Revival's hallowed tarmac, surrounded by genuine period race machinery — which tells you something about the level of engineering Rocketeer is putting behind this thing.

What 304 HP Does to a 2,400 lb Car

Here's the physics problem: the NC platform was never designed to shed speed from 304 hp. Stock front rotors are modest in diameter, the caliper pistons are minimal, and the pads are spec'd to manage heat loads that simply don't exist in the factory car. Double the power, keep the same brakes, and you've built yourself a liability — not a sports car.

A V6-swapped NC reaches 60 mph faster, reaches 100 mph faster, and arrives at braking zones with dramatically more kinetic energy. All of that energy has to go somewhere, and it goes through the rotors and pads. Brake fade, longer stopping distances, and overworked calipers are the predictable result when the hardware hasn't kept pace with the engine.

The NC Front Big Brake Kit That Matches the Moment

Mazda MX-5 Miata NC Competition Front Big Brake Kit by Paragon

The Paragon Competition Front Big Brake Kit for the Mazda MX-5 Miata NC is the hardware answer to exactly this problem. This is a 6-piston competition kit built around Alcon-sourced components — engineered for the NC platform and proven at track-level thermal loads.

Six pistons distributed across the caliper face mean the pad is loaded evenly across its full surface area, which translates to consistent bite, even wear, and fade resistance you simply cannot get from a stock two-piston sliding caliper. The larger rotor diameter increases mechanical leverage at the wheel, so you're generating more stopping force per unit of pedal pressure — critical when you're hauling down from speeds a stock NC never saw.

It's also the kind of upgrade that looks exactly as serious as it is. Behind an open-spoke wheel, the Paragon calipers read as competition hardware, not a catalog afterthought. If you're building an NC around a V6 swap or pushing a modified car harder on track days, the brakes need to announce that intent visually as much as they deliver it dynamically.

At $2,650, this is a serious investment — and it's the right one for any NC that's moved past stock power levels. Rocketeer's car is a proof of concept for what the NC platform can be. Your brakes should be a proof of concept for how seriously you've thought it through.
