Luke McMillin Completes the Baja Grand Slam With a Raptor Trophy Truck Win

Source: RACER — September 14, 2026

To win the Baja Grand Slam, you have to take all four stops on the SCORE World Desert Championship calendar in a single season: the San Felipe 250, the Baja 500, the Baja 400, and the Baja 1000. Luke McMillin just checked the last box. His No. 83 AWD Ford Raptor finished the 7th SCORE Baja 400 overall in 8 hours, 40 minutes, and 50 seconds across 423.42 miles of Baja California. Trophy Truck class win, overall win, and a piece of desert racing history.

It was McMillin's ninth career SCORE Trophy Truck victory. Bryce Menzies finished second in the Trophy Truck class. In Trophy Truck 2WD, Maverick and Chasen Gaunt took the win in a Geiser Bros Chevrolet Silverado.

What 400 Miles of Baja Asks of a Brake System

Trophy Trucks are built-from-scratch race machines — the Ford Raptor bodywork on McMillin's No. 83 is a nod to the platform, not a parts-sharing exercise. But the demands those trucks put on brake hardware translate directly to what real-world Raptor owners face at the limits of the platform. Four hundred miles of Baja California means sustained high-speed runs, hard braking into rocky descents, and back-to-back stops with minimal recovery time. A truck this heavy, at those speeds, needs a brake system that manages heat as aggressively as it manages stopping distance.

That same physics problem is exactly why the Alcon rear big brake kit exists for the 2010-2020 Ford Raptor and F-150. The factory rear brakes on these trucks are sized for everyday driving — the moment you start adding weight, speed, or terrain, they're asking for more than they were designed to give. Alcon's rear kit replaces all of that with properly sized rotors and a forged monoblock caliper built to racing tolerances, adding swept area and thermal mass at the axle that benefits most from the upgrade on long descents and towing stops.

The rear upgrade also completes the system. Running a big brake kit only up front shifts your brake bias forward and limits how well the truck can distribute stopping load under hard deceleration. Bringing the rear axle up to match is the step that actually unlocks the platform's full potential, and it's the one most Raptor owners skip until they've already pushed the front-only setup to its edge.

The Kit

The Alcon Rear Big Brake Kit for the 2010-2020 Ford Raptor and F-150 is priced at $2,700 and is a complete bolt-on upgrade for the rear axle. Whether your Raptor sees real desert miles, heavy towing, or just needs to back up the front kit properly, this is how you finish the job.
