Toyota LC300 Goes Hybrid-Only in Japan With 457 hp and 170 kg More Reasons to Upgrade Your Brakes

Toyota just rewrote the Land Cruiser 300 brief. As Carscoops reported on September 16, 2026, the updated LC300 goes on sale in Japan on October 1 — and the petrol V6 is gone. In its place sits the i-Force Max self-charging hybrid, producing 457 hp across the ZX and GR Sport trims. That makes the new LC300 the most powerful Land Cruiser 300 ever built, and it brings a 170 kg weight penalty over the discontinued gas model. The flagship ZX Hybrid also gains a full Modellista bodykit straight from the factory.

170 kilograms of added mass does not ride for free. It shows up every time you ask the front axle to scrub speed — on a highway merge, at the bottom of a mountain pass, or towing a trailer in heat. More power makes the gaps between stops shorter. More weight makes those stops harder to execute cleanly. The factory brake package was not designed around this powertrain, and that gap is where an upgrade earns its money.

The Alcon LC300 Front Big Brake Kit

The Alcon LC300 and Tundra 2022+ Front Big Brake Kit is purpose-built for the XK70 platform and addresses exactly that front-axle deficit. It steps up rotor diameter and swept area well beyond the OEM spec, pairs them with multi-piston Alcon calipers, and delivers the kind of consistent, fade-resistant bite that a 2.5-tonne hybrid SUV genuinely needs.

Beyond the physics, there is the presence factor. Alcon calipers filling the wheel arch of a Modellista-kitted LC300 are a statement on their own — the brake upgrade as the last piece of a serious build, not an afterthought. Whether this is a daily driver that occasionally sees a packed mountain road or a tow rig that pulls on the edge of the ratings, the front kit changes the character of the truck at the pedal.

Kit contents cover everything needed for a direct-fit installation on the LC300 platform: rotors, calipers, pads, and hardware. Pricing is $3,750.

If you are already across how the Alcon kit transforms the LC300 platform, our earlier breakdown is worth revisiting: Alcon LC300 Brake Upgrade. It covers the engineering rationale and the install in detail.

The hybrid LC300 is not yet confirmed for all export markets, but the XK70 platform is already here and the weight and power direction is clear. If your LC300 build is still running factory brakes up front, the updated Japan-spec numbers are a reasonable prompt to reconsider.
