The Hellcat V8 Charger Is Coming Back for 2028

Reported by Automotive News, corroborated by MoparInsiders (October 12, 2026).

It's not a rumor anymore. An internal Stellantis supplier planning document — reported by Automotive News and independently corroborated by MoparInsiders — confirms the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 Hellcat is returning to the Dodge Charger for the 2028 model year. Both two-door and four-door body styles are planned, paired with the ZF 8HP95 eight-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive only. Production is targeting roughly 12,000 units per year, with the line starting up in late 2027.

That number matters. Twelve thousand Hellcat Chargers a year means a meaningful population of 700-plus-horsepower sedans back on the street, the drag strip, and the road course. The platform carries serious kinetic energy at speed, and the brakes have to match what the engine can do — every time, not just the first time.

What the Gen-III Hellcat Platform Already Demands From Its Brakes

Owners of the current-generation Charger SRT Hellcat know the feeling: the factory Brembo six-piston calipers are genuinely capable hardware for most street driving, but the rotor is the weak link once temperatures climb. Stock iron rotors absorb and hold heat; on a repeated hard stop — think a highway pull or a tight track session — they fade, they warp, and they start to communicate their unhappiness through the pedal. The fix isn't exotic. It's two-piece floating rotor construction.

Paragon's upgraded front rotor pair for the 2021+ Charger/Challenger SRT Hellcat steps the front swept diameter to 400mm (15.7 inches) with a 34mm-wide vane section. The hat is a separate billet piece that floats on the ring, which has two practical effects: the ring can expand freely under heat without warping, and the hat acts as a thermal break that keeps caliper and fluid temperatures from spiking on repeated stops. The ring face is slotted, which continuously cleans and deglazes the pad surface and gives outgassing a path to escape under hard use.

These bolt directly to the factory six-piston Brembo calipers — no bracket changes, no caliper swap required. They are made to order, so lead time applies, but the result is a front brake that can genuinely handle what 700-plus horsepower can load into a stop.

Why the 2028 News Changes the Conversation

For current Hellcat Charger owners, the confirmation of a 2028 successor actually reinforces rather than undercuts the upgrade argument. The platform you own right now is not going away — parts support, community knowledge, and aftermarket supply will remain healthy for years. And if Stellantis is willing to bring the Hellcat back at all, the appetite for serious performance hardware in this segment is clearly not finished.

For buyers planning on the 2028 Charger, this is a heads-up that the upgrade path is already well-developed. The braking hardware that handles a current Hellcat's output will, in all likelihood, carry over or adapt directly to whatever production spec Stellantis finalizes. The rotor size, caliper bolt pattern, and thermal requirements won't change dramatically just because the model year does.

Either way — current car or future one — the brakes are the one system you genuinely cannot overdevelop. With 700-plus horsepower going to the rear wheels through a single axle, the stopping side of the equation deserves the same attention as everything else.

Not Sure Which Rotor Spec Fits Your Car?

The 2015-2020 and 2021+ Hellcat Chargers use different rotor diameters (390mm vs. 400mm up front) and different hat specs at the rear. We broke down exactly which Paragon kit fits which year — and why the two generations need different solutions — in our full comparison guide:
